About the project

The Alpina Mediterranean Cycle Route and this website have been developed as part of the Inter Bike III – Backbone Cycle Links on the Adriabike and Adrioncycletour Routes project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia 2021–2027 cross-border programme. The project has delivered a variety of new benefits for cyclists: in summer 2025, two pilot bus routes will operate for cyclists between Ajdovščina and Cividale del Friuli, and between the Vipava Valley and Predmeja. On the Italian side in Eastern Veneto, new boat services will take cyclists through the Caorle Lagoon and along the Lemene River. Cyclists are also invited to explore the extended three-week route from Kranjska Gora to Ravenna, developed under the earlier Inter Bike and Inter Bike II projects. A Route with Purpose

From the start, Goodtrail – the creators of the Alpina Mediterranean Cycle Route knew this route had to be more than a line on a map. It had to reflect the desire of people to explore Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia on two wheels; to engage with the world more consciously and slowly; and to connect deeply with cultures, villages, people, and landscapes. Designed for touring cyclists of all abilities — ideal for gravel bikes and e-bikes alike — the route is a cultural corridor that blends quiet asphalt roads, macadam, and forest paths into an authentic cycling experience.

Cultural Encounters on Two Wheels

The Alpina Mediterranean invites active travelers to discover this diverse region by day and enjoy its rich culinary and cultural heritage by night. At the same time, it encourages local tourism providers to develop unique, community-based travel experiences that support a more responsible and sustainable form of tourism. Because real sustainability means giving every community along the way a voice — and a place at the table.
